Nigeria's women's basketball team, D'Tigress, arrived in Abuja with the Afrobasket trophy on August 4, 2025. The team, who secured their fifth consecutive title and seventh overall, were received at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by officials from the National Sports Commission and other dignitaries, including Hannatu Musa Musawa, the Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy.
D'Tigress defeated Mali 78-64 in the final of the 2025 FIBA Women's AfroBasket Championship, which was held in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. This victory marks a historic achievement, as no other team has won five consecutive titles in the tournament's history.
The win also secured their qualification for the 2026 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup.
