Nigerian Designer Sets Guinness World Record with Largest Sandal

A Nigerian-British designer, Liz Sanya, has broken the Guinness World Record by creating the largest sandal in the world.

The giant sandal, made in Lagos, measures 8.14 meters (26 feet 8 inches) long and 3.15 meters (10 feet 4 inches) wide. It took Sanya and her team three days in January 2025 to complete the huge pink fuzzy clog at Pixel Park Studio in Lekki. Guinness World Records officially recorded the achievement on July 28, 2025.

Sanya, who grew up in Ibadan and Lagos, began designing shoes at the age of 12 and started selling them by 14. Her new record-breaking sandal is a giant version of her popular fuzzy pink shoes.

The record beat the previous holder from Mexico, who made a wooden sandal measuring 7.45 meters long and 3.09 meters wide in 2016.

The project was a proud moment for Sanya, who said it was important to return home and prove her skills. Many Nigerian celebrities and fans celebrated her success online.

Liz Sanya’s giant sandal is not only a new world record but also a source of inspiration for young African designers.
